The day after Christmas, Summer left at about 10:30 am to go back to San Diego. She found herself in LA traffic, crawling along at a snail's pace. She called me to complain about it, and I suggested she stop and take a break in Downey, the city where we used to live. I told her there was a MacDonald's right near the neighbourhood in which we lived. She said OK, and we hung up.
About 20 minutes later, I got a call from her, and she was frantic and crying. Something happened to the engine of her car and she couldn't drive. She was so close to the exit she was going to take, she could have walked to it. But, by now it was dark and the shoulder she was on was very narrow and she was afraid to get out of the car, because there wasn't much room. I told her to calm down - that we would figure something out. I started praying. I asked her if she had her AAA card for roadside service. She did, and I told her to call the number on the back. She was crying, and saying, "Mom, I don't have any money or anything!" I said, "Just call them and see what's going on with your car. Turned out, he didn't know, but he could tow her 5 miles for free. (She was 100 miles from home) So he at least got her off the freeway where it was safer.
In the meantime, I called Ken and my prayer partner for them to pray for protection etc. Then I called a couple of others to pray, One of the people I called was my dearest friend karen, who used to live in the same area I did. She nows lives in Costa Mesa, which is about an hour from where Summer was. I called her just to ask her to pray, but her mind starting going. She said,"Let me think about this." So we prayed together and she got Summer's cell phone number, and then hung up.
While I was talking to Karen, Summer got a call: One of her friends has a friend in ARIZONA who has a flatbed truck and will come and take her home, all the way to San Diego. By now it was about 7:30 pm. It was going to take him about 3-1/2 hours to get to her. Karen called me back and said she had talked to Summer and that Karen, her daughter, and son-in-law were going to Downey and take Summer to dinner and wait with her until the guy got there. So they did, and he arrived and they got the car on the truck, and headed down the freeway to San Diego. They got there about 3 AM.
Summer has friends who can help her get her car fixed. She's not sure what is wrong with it.
I believe the Lord answered our prayers for protection. I believe the Lord orchestrated this whole event. For it to happen where it did was a blessing, because it was a somewhat familiar spot to Summer, AND that Karen lives so close (Well. . . an hour away) and was not visiting her daughter in Oregon. Instead, her daughter was visiting her this year.
And i believe that the Lord put it on the mind of Summer's friend to call someone way over in Arizona, a state away, AND that he would be willing to come all that way.
I also believe that the Lord put it on Ken's heart to buy the girls the roadside service . . . three weeks ago.
God was surely covering Summer with His hand of Protection.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; You shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
